Whiddy Island Bantry Co. Cork - Ground-source heat pump

Heating & Cooling was always a problem with the control tower of Bantry Terminals – oil storage depot on Whiddy Island. 3 walls of glass – single glazed resulted in huge temperature swings in any 24 hour period .

The loss of a complete computer server system due to over heating in the control tower cellar prompted the requirement of air conditioning. AHAC installed this unit.

Comments:
  • Cooling performance on this unit out performs that of the heating. By the nature of the duct design – Full air ventilation of both the basement and the control tower is effected. Savings on the heating is substantial. 12kw of electric panel heaters were removed.
  • This heat pump runs at 1.8kw total consumption – compressor & delivery therefore saving Bantry terminals a staggering 80% on the heating bill. The cost of cooling is out weighed by the breakdown prevention of a computer control system for the entire tankfarm complex.
